AN INITIATIVE OF POST CARBON INSTITUTE

Bristol, UK

The Bristol task force was created in autumn of 2008. The task force was jointly commissioned by Alastair Sawday, Chair of the Green Capital Momentum Group and David Bishop, Strategic Director - City Development at Bristol City Council. Participants were drawn from across the city with representatives from the council, business and Not-For-Profit sectors (10 people in all). A presentation to the Bristol Green Capital Momentum group by Post Carbon Institute's Daniel Lerch in Spring 2008 was called out as a key factor in making the decision to set up the task force.

The report, Building a positive future for Bristol after Peak Oil (also available here)was released in autumn 2009. It covered issues of local importance that would be influenced by peak oil, including:

  • Social cohesion
  • Emergency planning
  • Transport and accessibility
  • Food
  • Healthcare
  • Public services
  • Key economic sectors
  • Power and utilities
